The 2000 Reunion and Annual Meeting
in Danvers, Massachusetts
by Arlan Willard, President
Witches, Gables, Wharf, and Museum -- Our 92nd Reunion and Annual Meeting of the Willard Family Association of America will be held on Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 5, 2000. Salem, Danvers, Essex, Cape Ann, Marblehead (has the painting The Spirit of '76 by Archibald Willard), Boston, and so much more. Such a wonderful historic area for our reunion.
Our headquarters will be located at the King's Grant Inn in Danvers, Mass., a location convenient to Boston and all of the North Shore.
Why are we meeting in Danvers and Salem? Did you know that on August 19, 1692 a John Willard, about 30, having been convicted of witchcraft, was hanged at Salem? You will hear more about this, be able to tour the Witch House, the Salem Witch Museum, and many other places if you join us for this reunion.
King's Grant Inn in Danvers is only 20 miles from Boston and only four miles from Salem. On Friday August 4th at the Inn we will begin our Reunion at 6 pm with registration and an hour to socialize. A full course dinner will be served at 7 pm. Immediately after dinner Alison D'Amario, Director of Education at the Salem Witch Museum, will be our speaker.
On Saturday morning we will start at 9 am with registration, coffee and Danish. At 9:45 am we will begin our Annual Meeting, and about 12:30 pm we will be served a buffet lunch.
On Saturday afternoon you are free to visit places of interest throughout the area. For those of you who can join us for this great time we will have tourist information, visitor guidebooks, and local maps. Salem is famous for more than witches -- the National Park Service has a Maritime National Historic Site, the House of Seven Gables is open for tours, the Peabody Essex Museum has a terrific collection of maritime art and historic period houses. And those are only a few of the very special places you might like to visit. Do join the Willards for this wonderful weekend.
