Thanks to an email from Rodney Willard I learned about the 100th Anniversary of the 1910 Los Angeles International Air Meet.It was held on January 10, 2010 exactly 100 years from the date of the January 10, 1910 Air Meet.  I must say the opening was handled in fine style.  Docents greeted you as you drove in to find parking and were very helpful.

It took place at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum which is in the northeast corner of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA.  In 1910 there was a huge field where the University is now and that is where the original Air Meet was held. The Rancho area features the old adobe home of the Dominguez family with lovely gardens and a huge patio.  Tables were set up there and refreshments were served.

Exhibits were set up all over the grassy areas and were most attractive.  Lots of pictures of the early pilots and their airplanes were out there and there was lots more inside of the Air Museum.  I was very pleased to see many pictures of our famous Willard--Charles (Charlie) Willard.  Also in the museum is a cabinet with many pieces of memorabilia from Charles Willard.

The speaker for the day was Kenneth E. Pauley, the author of a new book, "1910 Los Angeles International Aviation Meet", and the room was so full I was unable to hear him.

They also had tours of the Adobe so we enjoyed seeing that. Many of the docents were in costumes from 1910 period which fitted in so well on this day.

It had been well publicized and there was a huge crowd in attendance.  There will be some type of celebration each month during the entire Centennial year, and all sound very interesting.  For events beginning in February, please see the webpage below for information.
