Please find below the lineup of events for the 100 year celebration all throughout 2010 and a webpage list for all things related to the The 1910 Los Angeles International Aviation Meet at Dominguez Field.
The webpage list, of course, is not comprehensive but at the very least should provide many hours of research fun for interested parties.

The Events:

- January 10th is the opening day of the
"100 Years of Aviation" exhibit
at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum.

The exhibit is about early aviation in
California leading up to the aerospace industry.  It also
includes a diorama of the 1910 Air Meet taken from the
grandstands perspective.   This exhibit opens at the
museum, then will travel to different museums and
organizations in the Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Come
see the exhibit on its opening day!

Ken Pauley, author of The 1910 Los Angeles International
Aviation Meet will give a talk about the creation of one
of only two books ever published on the 1910 Aviation
Meet. Ken is the 1st speaker of our 12-speaker
series and offers a wonderful look at the 1910 Air Meet
and its legacy.

We will also be unveiling in coordination with the United
Postal Service and the Ries Chapter #48 Los Angeles
American First Day Cover Society the Centennial Pictorial
Postmark "First Aviation Meet in America."

Come see the exhibit, have Ken Pauley sign the The 1910
Los Angeles International Aviation Meet book and receive
the "First Aviation Meet in America" postmark.

This is an event that occurs only once in 100 years and we
hope to see you there!

2010

Aviation Day | Exhibit | Speaker Series | Children’s Activities

In 1910, Dr. Gregorio Del Amo, the husband of Susana Dominguez, arranged for the Rancho to become part of aviation history. In that year, the 1st International Aviation Meet in America was held on the Rancho. The Meet lasted for 10 days, with viewing stands erected just for the occasion. It provided the first opportunity for people on the West Coast to see an airplane in flight. Aviation pioneers such as William Boeing attended and others were inspired to develop the aviation industry in Southern California.

The Centennial year of the 1st International Aviation Meet in America is 2010. The Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum operated by the Friends of Rancho San Pedro is planning a celebration of this historic event, which happened January 10-20, 1910. The celebration will take place throughout the year.

Exhibit: The Centennial celebration will open with a traveling photo exhibit intended to offer the public an overview of the history of early aviation in the United States with an emphasis on California. The exhibit will consist of historical photos and documents and will cover the years 1903-1945. The exhibit will open at the Museum on January 10, 2010, then will travel to other museums in the Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Speaker Series: There will be a speaker series that will offer the public an overview of Southern California history and how California expanded through transportation including aviation. The topics of the series will cover early California history, history of transportation in California, the history of aviation in California and its impact, and what is happening now in the aviation/aeronautic industry.
